On September 6, 2018, Supreme Court of India made a historic decision of decriminalisation of section 377 and people started happily saying on social media 'Love Wins!'.

Several Bollywood celebrities who are an advocate of LGBTQ couldn't stop beaming with happiness and expressed the same on their social media pages. Amongst them was filmmaker Karan Johar and during an interaction at India Today Conclave, he spoke at length about his happiness.

At the event, KJo started off by saying, "I woke up and cried that day. I cried for the community. I cried that there was freedom. It was a historic moment. I was just glad that it was accepted legally. That particular day, ironically, was my father's birthday. I felt the freedom that day."

About the acceptance of 377, Karan went on to say, "There's so much information on sexuality, through literature and films. That change will not be sudden and gradual. Those families that go through it, will take time to process it.

I hope the next step is that gay marriages will be legalised. That's what I aspire for - as an Indian and as a human."

Karan added, "I think it will be accepted over a period of time. And cinema or literature or reportage on it will facilitate that. Yes, there will be opposition. But it will happen.

See, today there are already films (referring to Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, starring Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao) being made on this subject and the audience is accepting it, too. So it will happen gradually."
